Art direction and project management by Elena Lazzara for Germano Gioielli — a heritage storytelling composition featuring Gallo Alfonsi's historic goldsmith workshop, the Trevi Fountain (Rome), Germano Alfonsi at work on the bas-relief that inspired the maison's logo, alongside a fine jewelry collection, a goldsmithing collection, and a model holding a necklace from the collection.

SINCE 1846

The Maison

SINCE 1846

The Maison

Germano Gioielli is not a jewelry brand — it is a family archive of Italian goldsmithing spanning over 180 years.
Founded in 1846 by Gallo Alfonsi steps from the Fontana di Trevi (Rome), the maison became official supplier to the Royal House and, generations later, found its defining artistic voice in Germano Alfonsi, whose hand was described by critics as bordering on the miraculous and appreciated all over the world.
Today the fourth generation carries this legacy forward, producing hand-made, numbered, one-of-a-kind pieces alongside fine jewelry and a new series of silver collections.
Germano is a brand where every object carries a story predating the digital age by more than a century and a half.
The challenge was never to modernize Germano Gioielli — it was to give its artistic heritage a contemporary stage worthy of it.

FROM TRADITION TO DIGITAL

The Challenge

Germano Gioielli needed to move from a traditional, atelier-based presence to a structured digital ecosystem — without diluting the exclusivity, craftsmanship and archival depth that define the maison.
The brand required:
An e-commerce platform capable of representing both accessible fine jewelry and unique numbered luxury pieces within a single coherent system
A visual and editorial language able to communicate four generations of artisanal history to a contemporary audience
Consistent art direction across web, social and reputation touchpoints
A digital presence that read as maison, not shop

Warm lighting and golden reflections echo the brand's signature palette in a high-impact, "boutique-style" showcase composition.

REVEALING THE COMPLEXITY

The Approach

As Digital Art Director and Project Lead, Elena Lazzara built the visual and strategic architecture for Germano Gioielli’s digital transition from the ground up — governing the e-commerce design, coordinating development and content production, and directing the graphic language of every digital and social touchpoint.
The Spherical Method‘s core principle — revealing the essence of complexity rather than simplifying it away — shaped every decision. Germano Gioielli’s story holds multiple, sometimes competing identities: royal heritage and contemporary retail, artisan atelier and e-commerce platform, museum-grade archive and everyday desirability.
Rather than flattening this into a single generic “luxury” tone, the system was designed to hold these layers together coherently: a clear collection architecture (Luxury, Jewelry, Goldsmith’s Art, Wedding Rings, Silver) sitting inside one unified visual identity, so a client browsing an engagement ring and a collector viewing a numbered archival piece both recognize the same maison.

Creative and visual governance of the e-commerce, ensuring product photography, layout and navigation reflected the precision and craftsmanship of the pieces themselves

Artistic and metaphorical depiction of the Spherical Method, the strategic methodology developed by Elena Lazzara for Germano Gioielli's luxury brand experience ecosystem. The image shows a golden sphere, finely engraved with decorative motifs, opening like a shell to reveal a central white pearl. The Germano Gioielli logo is imprinted on the pearl, while on the inner left shell the text 'METHODUS SPHAERICA' (Spherical Method in Latin) and a small circular symbol are visible. Set against a black background, this composition symbolizes the union of traditional goldsmithing craftsmanship, exclusive design, and contemporary vision within the luxury jewelry and watchmaking industry.

THE SPHERICAL
METHOD
IN ACTION

Through the Spherical Method, Germano Gioielli transcends the concept of simple luxury e-commerce to establish itself as a complex, articulated system.
From an in-depth examination of its historical heritage to the interweaving of identity, collections, audience, and visual language, a design essence has emerged capable of unifying over 180 years of history into a single, coherent ecosystem.
Every strategic choice — from information architecture to art direction, from archival storytelling to user experience design — translates this legacy into a contemporary digital presence, preserving and enhancing the maison’s cultural, artistic, and artisanal dimension.

BRAND ECOSYSTEM

The Outcome

The result is a digital ecosystem where heritage and commerce coexist without compromise — a maison that can be browsed like a contemporary e-commerce platform while still reading, at every scroll, as a 180-year-old house of goldsmithing.
The project positioned Germano Gioielli’s online presence as an extension of its artistic value.
